Don’t miss Oscar-, Emmy-, BAFTA- and Golden Globe-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren as she stars in ‘The Audience’ on Broadway. Originating from London’s West End, the play takes you inside Buckingham Palace as you witness the private weekly meeting — known as ‘the audience’ — that Queen Elizabeth II has with each of her prime ministers, including Winston Churchill and Margaret Thatcher.
During The Audience’s West End run in 2013, the play’s star, Helen Mirren, won the Laurence Olivier Award (the British equivalent of the Tony Award) for Best Actress, and now she’s bringing her talent across the pond. Opening at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, The Audience features Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II, a role she previously played in the Academy Award–nominated film The Queen.
Covering 60 years of Queen Elizabeth’s weekly meetings with her 12 prime ministers, the play takes you behind the scenes of Buckingham Palace and into the queen’s private chambers. Watch the queen — from young mother to great-grandmother — interact with prime ministers like Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and Gordon Brown. Through these private ‘audiences,’ catch glimpses of the human being behind the crown.
