Arguably the hardest working jam band in the biz. The Umphrey???s McGee juggernaut has performed over 100 shows each year, for the last 18 years (for perspective, the band itself is now old enough to vote). While in the same categorization of jam bands as Phish and their improvisational ilk, this Indiana-bred pack of skilled musicians has progressive rock influences such as Yes, Pink Floyd and Genesis. Their sound even has the ring of heavy metal notes at times, like that of Iron Maiden. In truth, they defy rigid categorization, as many have cited them as mixing rock, metal, funk, jazz, blues, electronic, bluegrass & folk. With 9 wildly diverse studio albums to their credit, their second latest The London Session (recorded at the legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road - home of another favorite group of theirs, The Beatles) was perhaps their most ambitious up that point. They soon after released ZONKEY, and fans went crazy for the innovative merging of musical styles from the 70???s to today. With 4.2 million collective tracks sold online, Umphrey???s McGee appears to just be hitting their stride.
