About The Box Tiger, Off & On, Camden, Fluids
Formed in late 2009, The Box Tiger is an indie rock band from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario founded by singer/songwriter Sonia Sturino. Although young, the sound comes off as mature and well organized, while still maintaining heart, intensity, honesty and a sense of fun. The Box Tiger manages to keep a D.I.Y. indie aura, while simultaneously creating pop sensible hooks that make the music accessible to the masses.Since the release of their debut album "Set Fire" in August 2013, they have toured actively across North America, and are now in the process of writing their next album.
- The band played on Sunday of the Spring 2014 Boston Calling festival on theRed Stage (Brand New, Tegan and Sara, Built to Spill; Blue Stage headliners were Modest Mouse and Bastille).
- Over the last 6-8 months the band has opened for Foster the People (direct support; Toronto), Metric (direct support; Portland, ME), Brody Dalle (Toronto), Circa Survive (Portland), Grizfolk (direct support; Boston), Kevin Devine (direct support, Toronto).
On the band's opening spot for Brody Dalle in May, Huffington Post wrote "Toronto/Portland, Maine, outfit The Box Tiger captured hearts with their energetic, artful rock. Sturino could be Toronto indie rock's next It Girl, but she's so much more than that."

"Many years later", the tenor saxophonist Brandford Marsalis recalled, "a lot of younger musicians were hanging around with Elvin Jones, and they were talking about, 'Man, you know, you guys had an intensity when you were playing with Coltrane. I mean, what was it like? How do you play with that kind of intensity?' And Elvin Jones looks at them and says, 'You gotta be willing to die with the motherfucker.' They started laughing like kids do, waiting for the punchline, and then they realised he was serious. How many people do you know that are willing to die—period? Die with anybody! And when you listen to those records, that's exactly what they sound like. I mean that they would die for each other."
