About "The American Jewish Symphony"

The American Jewish Symphony Plays Music From Klezmer & Yiddish Theater Traditions

While most orchestras appeal only to the ear, the American Jewish Symphony goes straight for the heart. As the country's only orchestra dedicated to the performance of works related to Jewish history and cultural experience, the AJS has a mission greater than simply playing beautiful music remarkably well (though this they do). Every performance is designed to enthrall the curious, delight the nostalgic, and give hope to those who look to the future. Now the 50-piece ensemble will perform an Eastern European program featuring selections from the Klezmer and folk traditions as well as the American Yiddish Theater. Joining the Symphony at Queensborough Performing Arts Center is famed Drama Desk-nominee Mike Burstyn, winner of two Israeli "Oscars" and star of the Tony-winning musical "Barnum" on Broadway.
