About Karrin Allyson

"Many A New Day" - Karrin Allyson Sings Rodgers & Hammerstein

After a jam-packed career with Concord Jazz (thirteen albums and four Grammy nominations) and a recent self-produced holiday album, "Yuletide Hideaway," that won four stars from Downbeat, vocalist and pianist Karrin Allyson released "Many a New Day, Karrin Allyson Sings Rodgers & Hammerstein." It's her debut for the Motema label and a return to her musical past (as a teenager she performed in South Pacific): “I’ve been all around the world musically, from bop and bossa and chanson to blues and singer/songwriters. And now, I feel like coming home. I find myself powerfully drawn to the world of Rodgers and Hammerstein.” Besides her distinctive voice, which, as described by jazz critic Gary Giddins, “brings a timbre that is part ice and part grain... incisive, original and emotionally convincing,” one of the most noteworthy characteristics of Allyson's career is the wide range of material she has explored.
